Local Flavours – Drawings and Short-Short Stories by Ong Hui Chee
Local Flavours – Drawings and Short-Short Stories by Ong Hui Chee highlights the connections between food, culture and personal memory. Ong Hui Chee, a self-taught artist with a passion for both drawing and storytelling, regards food as more than sustenance—it is a powerful symbol of identity and shared experiences.
This exhibition features Hui Chee’s colour-pencil drawings and her short stories, and is curated around the three themes of food, drinks and jiayou (add oil). These themes reflect Hui Chee’s fascination with local food and beverages and how they are tied to memories and emotions.
Through this exhibition, SCCC and Hui Chee invite visitors to reflect on how food not only satisfies hunger but also connects people to their cultural roots and becomes inextricably linked with their personal lives.
