The amount of illegal wildlife trade in Singapore has increased significantly in the past few years, increasing from 66 cases in 2021 to 387 cases in 2023, which is more than a five fold increase. One aspect where there is a significant amount of illegal wildlife trade is Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Some TCM shops in Singapore sell illegal animal products, which are products that include the parts of endangered wildlife, such as pangolin scales or rhinoceros horns.
This intergenerational programme aims to educate seniors of the harms of buying illegal animal wildlife trade in TCM and dissuade them from purchasing such TCM, thus reducing the demand of these products and helping the preservation of wildlife in the year 2024 and beyond.
