从接受到回馈 乐龄义工老有所为乐在其中

人称“龙哥”的中风康复者谢瑞廷，自言个性慢热。数年前搬到坎贝拉后，他因无法久站，很少外出，直到关爱乐龄办事处工作人员持续家访，这名独居者才逐渐敞开心扉。

 

如今，他不仅积极参与福善活跃乐龄中心的活动，每周还会主动到中心的园艺走廊浇水，成为乐龄义工。

 

2015年中风后，谢瑞廷从职场退下。尽管关爱乐龄办事处人员多次上门，鼓励他前往步行仅五分钟至10分钟的福善（Blossom Seeds）活跃乐龄中心参与活动，但自认怕生的他，始终感到拘谨，甚至曾走到中心门外，又折返回家。

 

但在工作人员和义工的持续关怀下，他逐渐与他们建立信任，最终踏出第一步。过去两年，他成为这家服务三巴旺年长者中心的常客，身份也悄然转变——从受照顾者变成默默付出的乐龄义工。 

 

谈及这个改变，66岁的谢瑞廷双手合十，说：“来了中心一阵子，认识很多员工和年长朋友，大家谈得来，缘分很重要。”

 

他特别提到一名已离职的兼职园丁阿李，让他的生活变得更有意义。

 

他说，自己退休前从事焊工，对花花草草并不熟悉，却与阿李结下深厚情谊。阿李一周到中心报到几天，其余的日子则由谢瑞廷接手，担起浇花的任务。

 

“不要以为照顾花花草草很简单，哪些要浇多少水，哪些容易打理，都是学问。”

 

像谢瑞廷这样，从参与者转变为义工的例子，并不少见。福善活跃乐龄中心执行长翁秀卿透露，中心目前服务逾千名年长者，其中好些人是乐龄义工。

 

访问结束前，工作人员提醒谢瑞廷还有几节增强体能的“健得力”（Gym Tonic）疗程未完成。近期因脚痛需拄拐杖助行的他点头回应，随后起身带记者去看他悉心照料的花草。

 

从社交孤立到融入社区，尽管谢瑞廷再三强调是“缘分”，但在记者眼中，更重要的，是工作人员的爱心与陪伴，让他找到了老有所为、老有所乐的满足感。
