Keeping up with times
With the rapid rate of technological advancement today, coupled with the increasing complexity of jobs, the classic handphone is becoming obsolete, as it is unable to handle various important functions such as assessing emails, making video calls or communicating in group chats. At the same time, smart phones can also double up as an entertainment device.
Not Deterred to Learn
Mr Low Hock Ming, a 67-year-old retired accountant, realised this and saw the need to learn how to use a smartphone. The first step was to toss out his old Nokia phone and equipped himself with a new smart phone. Though learning how to get the most out of his new smartphone requires some hard work but Mr Low is not deterred. He was glad that he attended the Make Your Phone Work for You – Android, a short course conducted by Temasek Polytechnic under the National Silver Academy.
Enjoying the Benefits of Technology
He has learnt much and is very satisfied with the course. Currently he is adapting well to using his smartphone daily. Besides sending messages through WhatsApp, he enjoys the online entertainment such as using YouTube to listen to songs and watch video clips. He noted that the functions of the smartphone were much more comprehensive than the traditional handphone. Today, he is proficient enough to teach his wife how to use a smartphone. He often encourages people who haven’t switched to smartphones to do so as he has personally experienced its power and convenience.
Indeed, it is important to keep up with times in order to stay relevant. On top of that, reaping the benefits and convenience that technological advancements bring about is an added bonus!
**Special thanks to Mr Low Hock Ming who accepted our interview, we wish him all the very best in his lifelong learning journey.
