The ancient art of Chinese calligraphy emphasizes both writing skills as well as character building. After mastering the basic strokes of regular Kaishu (楷书), intermediate learners will be taught the more free-flowing Xingshu (行书). In this semi-cursive style, the learner will learn a series of writing conventions, including the linking of the strokes (连笔), simplification (简化) and merging (合并)strokes, adjustments to stroke order (改变笔顺) and the distribution of text (布局). Learners will be able to develop their own character in this style of writing through guided practices on classic passages and poems. At the end of this course, seniors will become competent calligraphers in enjoying and creating art pieces including writing their own spring couplets (春联).
