Chinese calligraphy is an ancient art which teaches Chinese words and handwriting. This basic course will introduce participants to the proper handling of Chinese ink brushes and the basic strokes of the regular style of Kaishu (楷书). From simple to more complex words, learners will practise on 9-grid papers (九宫格纸) and Xuan papers (宣纸). Learners will progressively learn to write single words, the Chinese poem and put a finishing touch on writing the inscription (落款). This elderly-friendly course will benefit seniors in (1) the cognitive exercise of pictographic recognition of Chinese characters, (2) the eye-hand coordination of precision brush strokes, and (3) the therapeutic effects of art creation.
