Pip is a young orphan living with his older sister and her husband, Joe Gargery the blacksmith. One Christmas Eve, Pip meets an escaped convict in a graveyard; shortly after, he is invited to play in the house of the eccentric old Miss Havisham. These encounters turn Pip’s life upside down as he is introduced to the world of privilege and wealth, and falls in love with Miss Havisham’s beautiful but cold-hearted daughter Estella. As Pip undergoes the trials and tribulations of his growing-up years, he comes to wonder if his “great expectations” are really as sound as they seem.
Directed by Mike Newell, the film is the seventh adaptation of Charles Dickens’ literary classic and features Oscar nominees Ralph Fiennes and Helena Bonham Carter, as well as young faces Jeremy Irvine and Holliday Grainger in the key roles of Pip and Estella. Join this all-British cast as they take you back to the world of Victorian England, and relive the memorable story of Young Pip once more.
