If you’ve missed watching performances or going to art exhibitions, you can do so from the comfort of your home with The A List
We might be at home but culture carries on online.
The A List, an initiative by the National Arts Council, has brought Singapore’s arts and culture to the digital sphere, allowing everyone to enjoy the arts from the comfort of their own homes. Called #SGCultureAnywhere, viewers can explore digital arts offerings from national institutions such as the National Gallery, the Singapore Art Museum and the National Museum, to arts groups like The Necessary Stage, Wild Rice and more.
There are five sections to browse on the site.
The A List Recommends rounds up the best of #SGCultureAnywhere. Not sure where to begin? Check out the weekly What to see, watch and listen from home series, which lists the top five recommendations for the week to get you off to a great start. Whether you’re interested in dance, theatre, music or heritage, there’s something for everyone.
Feed Your Soul brings you online performances that you can stream from home. For example, you can watch recordings from Mandarin theatre company Nine Years Theatre or enjoy music performances such as this concert where you can groove to evergreen Malay songs at the 2018 Silver Arts event.
Inspire Your Child features activities that you can do with the young ones. Looking for something to do with your grandchildren? Watch this storytelling session hosted by boutique bookstore, The Moon, about a friendly dragon, Franklin, who tries to make human friends. Alternatively, for something more hands-on, enjoy online puzzles and colouring activities by the Indian Heritage Centre. Keep exploring for more tips and activities to keep them occupied and learning at home.
If you’re up for some exploring, Get Adventurous might be just right for you. This section gives you access to virtual art experiences, such as this 360-degree experience with the recently concluded Singapore Biennale 2019, or this backstage tour of a traditional Chinese opera show.
Discover and Learn takes learning a step further with arts and culture. Go behind the scenes with the Heritage Conservation Centre to learn more about the management and preservation of our National Collection, or get up close and personal with artists, curators and more, such as this interview with Madam Patimah Jaludin, a classic Malay literature writer.
Through this site, The A List hopes to continue to engage both the arts lovers and those who are simply curious or looking for something to keep themselves occupied during this time as we stay home and stay safe.
