Join Syafiqah 'Adha as she explores the development and progress of urban folk Malay music at the turn of the millenium, which represents a reflection of the social norms and cultural practices of the current era, along with its implications on the Malay-speaking masses.
Syafiqah 'Adha is deeply passionate about traditional Malay music and has been an active performing accordionist in the genre for nine years. She received the Goh Chok Tong Youth Promise Award from MENDAKI in 2010, in recognition of her pursuit for excellence in music.
Syafiqah is the accordionist and music director of Gendang Akustika, a traditional-contemporary Malay music ensemble in Singapore. She is also a passionate educator and has conducted traditional Malay music workshops in schools, also teaching a world music module on traditional Malay music at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. Syafiqah is currently the instructor of the Malay Fusion Ensemble at School of the Arts Singapore.
